Stamp Shout Box
cristixav : In Russia, before or during WWI, they used stamps in that way;they were overprinted "Interchangeable with the copper coin of the same value" or smth.to that effect.

alyn : 1Page, I was wondering how the judges would find your exhibit. I like the idea of the official sanction of single page exhibits at STEPEX. Can you let us know what the official scoring criteria is for them.

1Page : NEWS RELEASE<br>STEPEX to host Federation of New York Philatelic Societies Single Page Exhibit Competition category.Conrad Novick, a vice president of the Federation of New York Philatelic Societies, has announced that STEPEX will be including a Single Page exhibit category in their competition at the annual STEPEX philatelic show on October 15 – 16, 2010 in Big Flats, NY. Conrad Novick, a proponent of national recognition for single page exhibits, has teamed with the representatives of STEPEX in planning a show category that will promote and enhance the hobby of philately and entice hobbyists to exhibit competitively on a level with more advanced philatelists. The main thrust of the Single Page is on subject and philatelic knowledge rather than rarity and difficulty of acquisition - and the point distributions reflect that. Under the Single page point system, having an extremely rare stamp or piece of material only accounts for 5 percent of the scoring. This allows the novice and the “shallow pocket” competitor a more even ground in competition. That, in no wise, disqualifies the need for subject knowledge, in fact it raises the bar for knowledge. The Single Page competition will be open to any Federation member who wishes to compete. There will be awards presented in the Gold through Bronze scoring, as well as any special awards. The competition will be on two levels; Junior (up to 16 yrs. of age) and adult competition. All members are encouraged to compete, and to read the prospectus, as the rules are a bit different than for regular full-=frame competition.

1Page : The ROPEX Show. Well, things went as I had expected them to go. I received a Bronze for my exhibit. It seems that the judges had an awful time in trying to critique it. They were faced with judging 15 different exhibits (in 1 frame) rather than a sigle subject in 1 frame. This I summized from the judges comments that "... this type of exhibit is more suited for a post office or a meeting type exhibit."The exhibit has since been referenced in a few articles in magazines and has been held up as an example of how to create single page exhibits in another article.I think I'm on the right track. -- See the next shout.
